I have always been fascinated with and loved art. As a child,
I enjoyed doing leather work. While getting my Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences at The Graduate School and University Center
of the City University of New York in Manhattan (that's a mouthful now isn't it?), I regularly visited all of the
art museums. I have recently gotten involved in quilting as a means to help my wife, Tamme, during her recent battle
with colorectal cancer.
I
named the business "Sugar Grove Creations" in honor of Tamme's heritage. Tamme grew up on a small farm
that her grandparents had in a little town (called Laurel Point) just outside of Morgantown, WV. She lived on a little
gravel/dirt road by the name of Sugar Grove Road. When Tamme and
I first met and started dating (20+years ago), she was living on the farm. It was a very peaceful and beautiful spot
in "Almost Heaven West Virginia". We have always thought about putting a little vacation home on the property.
After her Nana died, we haven't been back there to the farm as often as we would like. So, what better way
to pay homage to and always remember those very happy times.
In case your wondering about
me. I grew up in central New Jersey in a town named Morganville. We weren't too far from New York City. I
could actually go on a hilltop near my home, when all the all leaves had fallen off the trees, and take a glimpse the skyline
of NYC. I graduated high school and went to the University of Georgia in Athens, GA. While there I majored in
Biochemistry. After obtaining my BS, I moved to NYC and started graduate school with the hopes of getting my Ph.D in
Biomedical Sciences. As my luck would have it, I ended up having to move to Morgantown, WV and to West Virginia University
in order to remain under the advisor that I had at CUNY. (it's really a lot longer of a story, but I'm trying
to keep it to a minimum. ask me in person and I'll explain it to you over a cup of coffee) Anyway, it was
while I was at WVU that Tamme and I met. We were married shortly after, moved to the Delaware Valley, then to New Jersey.
And that's pretty much it. I did get my PhD and am currently a Senior Medical Writer for Covance, Inc. located
in Princeton, NJ.
We both love to travel
and go to quilt shows. We also love learning and sharing new ideas and techniques. Please feel free to share your
thoughts and ideas for your quilt with us. I feel confident that together, we will be able to give your quilt
project the look and feel that you are wanting.
...and remember, have a blessed day!
